Anthony Bourdain hit me pretty hard. I was a huge fan starting with Kitchen Confidential and ate up basically everything he produced. But more than just his content, which was great, his worldview and philosophy really spoke to me. It was cynical and angry, without being aimless or shallow. He seemed to be doing something different from everyone else and writing his own rules in a way which had no parallels anywhere in mainstream media.

With the USSR it was kind of all at once. Or rather, they managed to hide it until the very end.

Right, the fact that people are not synchronized sinusoids is why coherence energy is the way I describe it. If you randomly place emitters and receivers in real space, playing real signals with real bandwidth, the distribution of coherence factors between pairwise emitters is generally positive, but is also not 1.0. This is not destructive interference, it’s just just wave mechanics.

Audible sound has a wavelength of about 15m to a few cm so any real channel with any real sound will experience significant total coherence attenuation as a function of the angular offset of each pairwise emitter.

You are correct that a yelling crowd will never be quieter than a single person, but there is a massive natural diminishing effect which prevents a pure log-rule volume increase.

I actually interviewed for a data science role with this company a couple years ago. They were definitely cagey about what the actual product was for the initial screenings and then when they finally opened up about the role and …duties… of poop data scientist, it was actually pretty funny.

Local causality doesn’t imply unbroken universal causality. In fact, the idea everything is a purely deterministic projection of some initial state is far weirder than the idea that stochastic actions can influence a partially deterministic state.

I joined Lemmy with every intention to contribute and make a significant donation as well. But after getting banned and dogpiled for daring to say things like “Russia shot down a civilian airplane” and “the ML theory you are referencing does say what you claim it says,” I’m also here to say the fediverse will be better without cringe keyboard warriors like Dessalines and transphobes like Nutomic being involved with it. There are other projects to support.

More than that, “software engineer” has been drifting towards “software technician” for a while now. If you don’t have any additional physics, math or engineering specialty on top of software skills, things are pretty crowded. Anyone can learn to write decent software. It’s really never been a traditional academic topic for the most part, and AI is definitely making that worse.
