I even have a 100mm² × ~65mm height printed and bolted together press I made for very small deep drawn sheet steel pressed parts and is overkill for this application. Although I can already think of ways to use large buttressed threads in prints that incorporate a press into the design of the mold, or even stacking arrays of self pressing molds to save space. Run a scan to share what does and doesn’t work on your machine so that others can see. Don’t worry about it. This is a good thing for everyone and not some exploit. Check if others have scanned with the same hardware. Look at what kernel they are running and if it has the same problem or notes. You may see the hardware label and find other machines with the same that may or may not be working.

We were a whole lot poorer when everything was only regional. We need a balance. We will be a whole lot poorer and belligerent as a species if we are totally insular.

We are actually pretty close to being able to defeat the resource scarcity of our planetary prison. Gravitational differentiation is a bitch for sequestering almost all of Earth’s heavy resources after the Theia collision and the last time the entire surface of Earth was molten. The continents are like the flux or froth that rises to the surface. Nearly all of the heavy elements on the surface of the planet are from astroid collisions that have happened since the continents formed. The thing is, there are these things called m-type asteroids that are remnants of planetesimal cores broken apart in the early formation of the Sol system. Some of these large m-type asteroids are in near Earth orbits. These are differentiated, aka concentrated with rare elements. Fully accessing just one of these has a potential to completely upend what wealth means and all of our financial institutions. It could easily dwarf all human resource wealth that has ever been accessed on the surface of Earth. Accessing this kind of resource wealth will drive us into space in the future at large scales. We already have the materials science to build O’Neill cylinders that have Earth like centrifugal gravity and are 9.1 km in diameter by ~30 kilometers long. The scientific papers establishing this were published by Dr. O’Neill in the 1970s. The only thing holding us back is the will and the resources. We only get to that future if we put aside tribalism and work together.

We don’t need this dichotomous oversimplification of all or nothing. We need balance and we need to stop the culture of unregulated unethical capitalism. Capitalism must be regulated like the drug addicted STI ridden whore that it is and handled like a worthless ragdoll because this is what it really is. Corporations are disposable worthless things. They are not people. They should be the homeless beggars. They are the fodder on the front lines of conflict because corporations and companies are not people and killing them is a great and valiant thing. New companies can fill the voids. This is the whole point in capitalism. The problem is that we have let companies rule over people and that is feudalism. It is not a democracy at all. Whores cannot lead or rule us or we fall apart. They have no ethics, no values. They would just as soon kill you, but that is okay only because they are not people and they must die with extreme prejudice. Businesses have no rights except to be useful for a time. Being established as a business must become a liability not an asset because it is within real open market capitalism. No one gets all the gambles right every time unless they are cheating and in both cases they must die.

Citations needed on mod tool complaints. I mod one of the largest communities on Lemmy. In 2 years I’ve had around a couple dozen times that required actual mod stuff. The tools are perfectly adequate for the volume of users in my opinion.

We all took it a little hard when some regular users left. I get that. There will always be people coming and going for various reasons.

There is also always an issue with narcissists that tend to get involved with moderating for the wrong reasons.

All humans are lazy at times. And all of us have a right to pick up an leave if we choose. Blaming the tools as a scapegoat for one’s laziness, or inadequacy, or to mask one’s financial limitations, seems to me like a narcissistic way to toss in the towel and check out, like an attempt to drag others down too.

I’m 40, and so I experienced the naughties 2000-2010 in dating life. Everyone was just getting cell phones when I was in high school. Cell phones ended the expensive long distance phone calls over land lines. Prior to that, writing culture was the primary form of communication. My parents sent each other letters in the mail. Life was much slower, but information was much harder to come by. Entertainment sucked and was just whatever was on cable TV. Music and movies were monopolies that were largely dictated by a few elites.

People were more social though. Everyone is getting their endorphins from idiot bricks like we are doing right now stranger. There is very little actual motivation to socialize and without the deficit building up for days or weeks to motivate socializing, humans are less likely to put out enough effort or value their opportunities. Now the problem is connecting with someone in the real world while disconnecting from the zombie feed in equal measures as individuals to focus on each other.

Share something useful from Lemmy with someone not on Lemmy, when that something does not also contain toxic negativity or vitriol, but is positive, inclusive, and cordial.

There are over 100k homeless people within 100 miles of me right now. I have fallen through the cracks of this system and been subject to it directly after a broken neck and back. No one can survive on their own with the benefits and getting those benefits is nearly impossible now. It takes years of effort that is demeaning and degrading with dozens of intentional loopholes and cost barriers for systemic denials and terrible treatment. There are even treatments for my problems with stem cells in Japan, but the inbred halfwits of Western normalized cultural mysticism prevent any stem cell research and treatments here in this Luddite backwater.

I imagine you must be good at memorizing a lot of information. I am not. I am good at abstraction and must explore in abstraction to understand heuristically. I understand heuristic connections better than most people. Neither method is better or worse. Being toxic about interchanges of information is useless nonsense. If most projects can be colorized, it will motivate others to fall in line or prompt rewrites assuming such a change was popular. Colorized manpages and help pages should be standard and should have been a decade ago. No one is using an IDE without syntax highlighting. The terminal is an extension of the abstracted language of Linux. Without universal syntax highlighting for new users in these spaces, Linux is presenting an outdated language format ripe for deprecation. These details have long term consequences.
